Diagnostic Stewardship Interventions in Infectious Disease
This session will delve into the core principles and practices of diagnostic stewardship, demonstrating its vital role in enhancing antimicrobial stewardship. Discover why diagnostic stewardship is a cornerstone of modern laboratory medicine and learn how to evaluate the impact of diagnostic tests on patient care within this framework. Dr. Prinzi will also explore the latest advancements and innovative strategies designed to address current challenges in the field.

Innovative Antimicrobials: Tackling Multidrug Resistant Organisms
In this webinar, Luis Plaza, MLS(ASCP)CM, lead MLS in microbiology, will provide an in-depth review of the latest antimicrobials used for treating multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs), as well as discuss the organisms that these antimicrobials are intended to treat.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the lack of an effective arsenal of antimicrobials pose a significant global threat to public health. Recently, combinations of existing antimicrobials or drugs that target novel mechanisms have been approved for use in MDRO-related infections, e.g., Sulbactam-durlobactam, a novel combination antibiotic designed to target Acinetobacter baumannii, a notorious pathogen known for its resistance to multiple drugs, including carbapenems. Plaza will highlight the mechanisms of action, efficacy, and clinical trial results of Sulbactam-durlobactam, showcasing its potential to fill a critical gap in current treatment options for these hard-to-treat infections.
Plaza will also discuss Cefiderocol and its use against MDROs, as well as colistin, an antibiotic that was once discontinued but has been resurrected in the absence of other viable treatment options.

Dengue Infection: Effective Strategies for Accurate Detection During Global Surge
Dengue virus (DENV) belongs to the Flavivirus family and is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes from the Aedes species mainly found in Latin America, Central Africa, India, South, East Asia, some parts of the Pacific Islands, and some countries in Europe. The number of dengue cases in 2024 has reached a global record. Given this surge, it is crucial to understand the most effective tests for detecting acute or past infections.
Key learning objectives of this session include understanding the different types of assays for timely and accurate dengue detection. Participants will enhance their ability to address dengue virus in both clinical and public health settings.
